Prepared for the construction of the future - New building trends and their significance for the Danish rescue service

27/11/2025

Increasing climate change is driving a necessary green transition in Denmark, where new technologies and sustainable solutions, such as timber buildings and solar energy, are becoming an integral part of society's development. These contribute to a more sustainable society and create the transition for a more climate-friendly Denmark, but also change the conditions for the rescue services' tasks.

Therefore, in recent years, there is a focus on supporting a safe green transition, where the rescue services are equipped for future efforts. The "Agreement on the Emergency Response Area 2025-2026" indicates a separate focus on developing new knowledge about new building materials and more complex construction in relation to the rescue services' efforts.

Against this background, the Danish Technological Institute has prepared this report, which deals with future trends in construction with a focus on the implications this may have for the rescue services. In addition, the report indicates a prioritisation of the key building trends and can thus serve as a guideline for further work in the area.

It should be noted that this is an overview of the challenges and opportunities that currently exist in the area. This is an area in growth and development, which is why there is a need to continuously revisit the overview and priorities.
